Kadie Daye moved from Indiana to western New York in 2021, arriving with little more than a mattress. While visiting a local diner for a real meal, she struck up a conversation with the waitress and a couple regular diners; these folks not only actively listened to her, but recognized and responded to her need for household goods. It didn’t matter that she was a stranger. They responded to her need, and this will continue to impact her life for good for years to come. Her story is briefly recounted in a blog post (Kadie Day, “Western New York Diner Proves Buffalo Is the City of Good Neighbors,” Country 106.5 WYRK [blog], December 27, 2021, https://wyrk.com/friendly-diner-buffalo/).
