Jesus took the ordinary stuff of life—a wedding, some jugs of water—and made it into something extraordinary by his presence and his miracle power. Jesus has that same power throughout our lives. Tish Harrison Warren explains that even brushing her teeth reminds her that both her body and her soul need regular care: “When I brush my teeth, I am pushing back, in the smallest of ways, the death and chaos that will inevitably overtake my body. I am dust polishing dust” (Tish Harrison Warren, Liturgy of the Ordinary: Sacred Practices in Everyday Life [Downers Grove, IL: IVP Press, 2016], 48). All of life is imbued with the presence of Christ, if we have eyes to see it.
