In a soccer game, one team was winning by a significant margin. The reason the
game was so lopsided wasn’t clear at first. The losing team had players in
defensive positions, but when the other team had the ball and was on offense, no
one defended the goal. Instead, they would run next to the opposing players,
keeping pace, right up until the opponent took a shot and scored. The problem is
that the losing team wasn’t actually playing defense. Many churches have a halfformed team, though it may not be immediately obvious. It’s possible to look the
part of a Christian, show up at church regularly, and even make it seem that
you’re going through the motions properly. But look closely and you’ll see it’s a
hobby, not a faith.
