Research the Native peoples in your area, if time allows. Most Native peoples
have a traditional method of passing stories down from one generation to the
next, such as through embroidery on important clothes, carvings in wood or
bone, or painting on pottery. Draw out the concept of the importance of telling our
stories. It would be extraordinary if someone local could come and share about
their traditional story-keeping method. Ask questions of the group about why
people want their stories remembered and if the stories we know about our
families, cultures, and countries have had any impact on us. Invite discussion.
Compare this storytelling to how God is the ultimate storyteller and how thin
threads of storylines are woven together to make a beautiful tapestry, if we’ll only
take time to observe.
