To illustrate this point about greatness in God’s Kingdom, refer to the life of Mother Teresa. She was a complicated figure, as recent information has showed more clearly. But she certainly did selflessly devote her life to helping the poor and destitute of India. “She set up soup kitchens, a leper colony, orphanages, and a home for the dying destitute. She treated the lepers, educated the poorest of the poor, and fed the homeless. She treated them like her family” (Judy Ponio, “How Mother Teresa Changed the World through Charity,” Our Father’s House Soup Kitchen, October 10, 2021, https://ofhsoupkitchen.org/mother-teresa-charity). Mother Teresa was not wealthy or powerful or great by worldly standards. But those who perceive the values of the kingdom know that she achieved greatness in the kingdom through the lowliness of servanthood and the pains of self-sacrifice.
