Hardwired

It is amazing how God has hardwired our brains and bodies to even function in ways that reward us following him. While it is almost common sense that being selfish all the time could not possibly be good for you, there is actual science that shows our bodies reacting to doing good for others produces a type of happiness in us. This, of course, does not mean we should do it in order to feel good but that we can recognize one extra way in which God has hardwired us to function at our most human which includes service to others. “Scientific research provides compelling data to support the anecdotal evidence that giving is a powerful pathway to personal growth and lasting happiness. Through fMRI technology, we now know that giving activates the same parts of the brain that are stimulated by food and sex. Experiments show evidence that altruism is hardwired in the brain—and it’s pleasurable. Helping others may just be the secret to living a life that is not only happier but also healthier, wealthier, more productive, and meaningful” (Jenny Santi, “The Secret to Happiness Is Helping Others,” Time, August 4, 2017, https://time.com/collection-post/4070299/secret-to-happiness/).
