Practicing generosity is like weightlifting. If you start lifting thirty-pound reps (roughly one-third of your body weight when you’re still one hundred pounds), you are going to have a much easier time lifting largerand larger weights as time progresses. If you wait until you make it close to three hundred pounds without working out, lifting one-hundred-pound reps (still one-third of your body weight) is going to be much harder to start with. Now, if you reach three hundred pounds by lifting weights, one-hundred-pound repetitions on a barbell are not only going to be easy, they are going to feel good. The same is true for generosity. If we practice sharing and generosity when we have little, it becomes a habit that increases along with gifts the Lord gives to us.
