Being in the church is a little bit like going to a family reunion and meeting relatives you’ve never interacted with before. Sometimes you look around and think, “Is this really my family?” Perhaps because we don’t know them or they look so different from us, we treat them with a note of contempt. But maybe eventually someone we regard highly explains how we are connected. Jesus reminds his disciples that just because you don’t know where they come from doesn’t mean we aren’t going to the same place, together.
