On CBS’s long-running reality show Survivor, cast members play a game of outlasting their teammates on an island devoid of creature comforts. Weeks later, when the show ends, the players are recorded as they reenter modern life— electricity, running water, bathrooms, and mirrors! Without exception, the players are surprised to see their reflection. It’s as though having been away from such things for several weeks, they have forgotten what they look like! Similarly, James warns his readers in James 1:22-23: don’t just walk away from God’s Word and forget who you are in God! Live as though the Bible was always before you!
